Aluminum PET Mylar foil shield FTP cable is the most traditional shield twisted pair, Aluminum PET Mylar foil is mainly used to isolate the 8-cores twisted pair from external electromagnetic fields to prevent electromagnetic interference.

FTP twisted pair is a layer of aluminum pet laminated mylar tape wrapped in the outer layer of 8-core twisted pair: outside the 8 core wires, there is a layer of aluminum pet layer in the sheath, and a ground conductor is laid on the conductive surface of the aluminum foil. FTP is often in CAT5,CAT6 cables. The aluminum pet tape of foil layer should be connected to the shielding layer of the shielding module together with the grounding wire. In order not to leave a gap where electromagnetic waves can be invaded, the aluminum pet foil tape should be expanded as far as possible to form a 360-degree contact between the shielding layer of the module. When the conductive surface of the shielding layer is in the inner layer, the aluminum foil layer should be turned over to cover the twisted pair sheath, and the twisted pair and the metal bracket at the back of the module are fixed into one with the nylon cable tie attached to the shielding module, so that after the shielding shell is covered, there is no gap between the shielding shell and the shielding layer, Between the shielding layer and the sheath can be invaded by electromagnetic waves.

When selecting Aluminum PET polyester tape , attention should be paid to the selection of non-jagged aluminum pet foil with smooth edges, otherwise it will be torn due to the gap in Aluminum PET tape.

 In order to achieve better shielding, you can require thicker aluminum polyester pet tape, or double-sided aluminum polyester pet tape or replace it with copper pet tape(CU-PET), but the cost is higher and the shielding effect is better.
